The township of Scone
Scone is located on the New England Highway, 80km north of Singleton and 130km south of Tamworth. It is the largest town in the Upper Hunter Valley Shire with a growing population that exceeds 5,000.
Local industries
Scone Business Park is strategically located for businesses servicing the district's growing retail, mining, equine and agricultural industries of the area.
Scone's agricultural and equine industries are world famous. The district supports over 70 horse breeding studs and is home to a world class thoroughbred breeding and racing industry. Its thoroughbred breeding industry is second only to Kentucky in the USA - and Scone is also home to the largest veterinary practice in the southern hemisphere.
There's even more potential. Scone is located only 20 minutes from the thriving mining industry and near a number of proposed mines which could provide substantial growth.
Airport Upgrade
The Scone Airport is proposed to undergo a $2 million upgrade funded through partnership efforts of the Upper Hunter Shire Council, local industry and the NSW Government's Industry & Investment NSW. The airport upgrades are designed to enlarge services and capacity at the facility and boost local businesses and will include an improvement and extension to the runway, construction of an additional taxiway as well as improved drainage.
